If the answer you need is not here, write to help@ranasamaj.org and we will add it.

Registering

Do I have to pay to be on the community site?

No. The directory, events and announcements are free, and most of them are readable without an account at all. Only Rana Matrimony is paid.

Which Samaj should I choose?

The smallest one your family belongs to. The ones above it are recorded automatically, so choosing your town also puts you in its district, state and country. Your choice decides who verifies you.

My Samaj is not listed.

Write to help@ranasamaj.org with the name and where it is, and we will add it. See claiming a Samaj if you help run one.

Can I register with a phone number instead of an email address?

Yes, either works. Giving both is better, because we send verification updates to whichever we have and one of them is usually easier to reach you on.

Verification

Why do you need my photo ID?

So that everybody in the matrimonial directory is a real person who belongs to the Samaj. It is checked once and then deleted. The verification page sets out who sees it and for how long.

Who is reviewing my document?

The President of your Samaj, or a platform reviewer if your region has no sitting President. Every view is recorded with their name and the time.

How long does it take?

Most reviews finish within three working days. You are told by email and SMS when there is a decision, and if changes are needed you are told exactly what to fix.

I was refused. Who decided?

You are told the reason, not the reviewer. Presidents are volunteers who often live in the same town as the people they review, and naming them would make an honest decision cost them personally.

Matrimony

Why can I not message anybody?

There is no chat, deliberately. You send an interest; if it is accepted, you each get the other's phone number and email and you talk directly. Families have always done this by telephone, and a chat box mostly creates a place for people to be unpleasant to each other.

Who can see my photographs?

Signed in members, or verified members only if you choose that in your preferences. Never the public, and never a search engine.

What happens when my membership ends?

Your profile leaves search and you cannot see contact details. Everything else is kept for a year, so renewing restores it immediately with no re-verification.

Can I hide my profile from particular people?

Block them. Blocking hides each of you from the other immediately, and they are not told.

Privacy

Can my Samaj President read my matrimonial profile?

No. A President sees that a profile exists, what state it is in and how complete it is. They do not see its contents, its photographs or its contact details. What they can see is listed on the privacy page.

Is any of this public on the internet?

The directory, committee names, events and announcements are public. Everything to do with matrimony is behind a sign in and is not indexed by search engines.

Do you sell anything to anybody?

No. There is no advertising, and no data goes to anybody outside the platform except the payment provider, which needs to take the payment.
